KAREN Video Bridge - Temporary Stability Issue

Hello Everyone,

The following is a communication forwarded from REANNZ regarding the stability and contract progress of the KAREN Video Bridge:

Dear all,

Since the beginning of December the beta KAREN HD bridge service has demonstrated very reliable performance. This has led to a large number of video conferences being set up on this beta service rather than on the production SD AARNet Bridge service.

Over the last week a bug has emerged on the HD bridge causing the bridge to reboot on an intermittent basis which has caused meetings to fail. The manufacturer has confirmed this is a known issue and will be fixed when we upgrade the system to v7.1.

Unfortunately, we are unable to upgrade to this version until we have finalised contractual negotiations. REANNZ is negotiating hard with the suppliers to ensure the best possible legal and financial outcomes on behalf of the KAREN Membership and this takes time. This means we will not be able to fix the reboot bug immediately and video conferences may be exposed to this bug on an intermittent basis for up to one or two weeks.

Therefore, we would like to advise you to move any critical meetings planned on the HD Bridge to the AARNet Bridge. The AVCC team are happy to help you with this process. Please email helpdesk [at] avcc [dot] net [dot] nz or call 0800 666889

We thank you for your understanding whilst we strive to deliver the best possible service on behalf of our Members.
