What is KAREN?
KAREN (Kiwi Advanced Research & Education Network) is the networked infrastructure of optical technologies which provides high capacity, ultra high-speed connectivity between New Zealand’s tertiary institutions, research organisations, libraries, wananga, schools and museums, and the rest of the world. Any member of an associated organisation can connect through KAREN to any other member or to collaborators on other advanced networks internationally.
The KAREN network is facilitated and managed by Crown owned company, REANNZ.
KAREN serves thousands of researchers, educators, and scholars from Crown research institutes, universities, libraries, schools, polytechnics, museums and private sector partners across New Zealand through a series of 16 Points of Presence, or PoPs.
The network also connects with similar high-speed national research and education networks across the world, through international connection to Sydney and Seattle, and through them networks in Asia and Europe.
Any member can connect through KAREN to any other member or to collaborators on other advanced networks internationally.
For more information see the KAREN website.
