H.323 - Overview

Introduction

H.323 video conferencing systems have been around since 1996 as a way of video communication. Various manufacturers and vendors around the world have adopted the H.323 protocol as a common standard in the way that endpoints connect to other endpoints over the internet.

H.323 video conferencing systems within New Zealand and around the world are the most commonly used way of linking meeting rooms large and small of companies, universities, schools, government agencies and many other institutions together. Whilst other forms of video conferencing such as Access Grid, EVO, Skype, WebEx etc have their place, H.323 video conferencing is seen as the most common standard thus far for linking physical rooms together.
