To get started you will need to download the Mirial client, a 30 day trial is available from the Official Mirial Softphone website
Once it has downloaded run the executable and follow the instructions. Once the installation is finished you can run Mirial at which point it will ask for a license file. You should have received the license file in an email whether you applied for the trial or purchased a copy, just save it to a folder on your computer and direct Mirial to it.
Mirial will now load and you can begin the configuration process.
General Tab
- On the general tab, you may want to disable Start with Windows if Mirial will only be used occasionally.
- Disabling a screen saver can be useful if you talk without interacting with your computer, as otherwise you will lose your picture as your screen saver starts.
Video Tab
- On the video tab you can configure which device you want Mirial to use, for most users as long as a picture is displayed in the preview box you can safely ignore this tab.
Audio Tab
- The Audio tab allows you to test your sound devices, talking into your microphone should cause a volume meter to be displayed under Audio Input. While Test Play will test your Audio Output.
Codecs Tab
- The Codecs tab has some very important options depending on your connection speed and computer processing power.
- Everyone will want to tick the two Misc boxes for H.224 and H.239.
- If you have a dual core or better CPU you should enable H.264 under the Video TX section, everyone should enable H.264 on the Video RX section.
- If you are connected to KAREN you will want to enable 4CIF (720p or higher is not recommended unless you have a very new and powerful computer), users on home broadband will want to use CIF instead to ensure a stable connection.
SIP Tab
- If you have a SIP account you can enter your details on the SIP tab, for most users this can be left blank.
H.323 Tab
- On the H.323 tab you will want to set your H.323 Name, phone number, and the gatekeeper address.
- Your H.323 Name can be anything, but should describe who you are or where you are calling from.
- The phone number can be any set of digits and does not necessarily need to specify a real physical phone number. A good way to set this would be to use your area code number then phone extension, eg. 96502 for someone in Auckland with the extension 6502..

About Tab
- The About tab is useful for checking your current version and to update your license file if you decide to purchase Mirial or are supplied a license.
