Scopia Desktop - Professional

Introduction

Scopia Desktop has two versions available. Scopia Desktop Standard & Scopia Desktop Professional. This page will help clarify the differences between these two products.

1. Additional Features

Scopia Desktop Pro has the following additional features:

  • Presence based Contact List application with favorite users and rooms 
  • Central, integrated directory for easily looking up Contacts and Endpoints
  • Call another Scopia Desktop Pro user directly for point-to-point calls eliminating the need to use any ports on the KAREN Video Bridge
  • Seamless escalation from point-to-point calls to the KAREN Video Bridge for adding additional participants easily
  • Virtual room configuration and personalisation

Please note: Scopia Desktop Pro is only available currently on Windows
 


2. Setting Up and Configuring

In order to setup Scopia Desktop Pro on your computer, you need to get approval from your institution to utilize an assigned Scopia Desktop Pro license. Once approved and process, your login account will be upgraded. This will allow you to download the Contact List addon found on the Scopia website.

To install the Contact List addon follow these steps:

Step 1 - Installation
  • Go to http://sds.karen.net.nz and click on the updates link at the top right hand corner of the webpage. This will open an update window.
  • Tick the "Contact List" option and click install.
Step 2- Installation Authentication
  • You will be prompted to enter your username and password. Enter these credentials in and click on the "Sign In" button.
  • The installation process should now be complete.
  • You may need to enter your username and password again into the Contact List window to login.
Step 3 - Contact List
  • Once you have logged in, you will be presented with a window similar to this. However your window will not have any contacts in it. You will need to search for other Scopia Desktop Pro contacts or create a contact.
  • The Contact List works much like other Instant Messaging programs. You can see other contacts status and call then directly if you select them and press the "Call" button.
Step 4 - Adding Contacts
  •  To add a contact you can simply press the "Add" button. A window will appear letting you find other contacts that are registered in the iView system.
  • You only need to enter part of the name and press the "Find" button to get a result.

 Step 5 - Adding H.323 Endpoints

  • Scopia Pro give you the ability to add a H.323 endpoint to your contacts. This allow you to call a H.323 endpoint and this will automatically connect you and the remote H.323 endpoint to the KAREN Video Bridge to an adhoc meeting.
  • Click on "Add Custom Contact" . Select the Contact Type to H323 and enter the other relevant details.
  • The H.323 endpoint will now be displayed in your Contacts List ready for you to call
 

 


3. Eligibility & Licenses

Scopia Desktop Pro is only available to subscribed institutions of the KAREN Video Services. If you fall under this category then please contact the AVCC Helpdesk for more info on how to obtain this license.
